Katelyn Nardi
MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — A Lincoln County mother has pleaded no contest to child neglect stemming from the death of her daughter last fall.
Katelyn Nardi entered the plea Friday morning and was found guilty by a Lincoln County Judge. In exchange for the plea, one count of felony reckless homicide was dismissed.
The 27-year-old was giving her daughter a bath and left the room for a few minutes to pick out her pajamas. When she returned, the girl was unresponsive.
Nardi told officers she pulled the girl from the tub and began CPR while her fiancé called for help. Investigators later learned that the girl suffered from a medical condition and was kept home from school that day because she wasn’t feeling well.
The girl had also missed a scheduled dose of medication, with her last dose coming the day before.
A week-long trial had been scheduled for June. A presentence investigation will now be completed, with sentencing scheduled for January 25th. Nardi faces up to 15 years in prison plus extended supervision.
Editor’s note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Nardi pleaded no contest to the reckless homicide count. The corrected version is above. WSAU News regrets the error
