Brent Hofman
SHAWANO, WI (WSAU) — The man accused of killing Rick Roundy one year ago was denied a bond modification on Tuesday.
Brent Hofman will remain in jail on a $1 million cash bond after his defense team couldn’t convince a judge to lower it. The 75-year-old is accused of killing Roundy during an argument in November 2025, then threatening a third person.
They barricaded themselves inside an outbuilding on the property and called for help. Hofman was arrested at the scene and treated for injuries at a local hospital before he was booked into the Shawano County jail. Officers noted that he appeared intoxicated and was slurring his speech when they arrived.
All three men were lifelong acquaintances, with witnesses saying they don’t know what was said that could have caused the shooting, noting that their relationship had always been “neighborly.”
Both sides are also waiting for the release of digital evidence. Another status conference is scheduled for January 11th.
Hofman has pleaded not guilty to the charges. No trial dates have been set.
