Michael Alfonso
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Michael Alfonso took a big step towards filling his father-in-law’s former job, outlasting four contenders in a five-person Republican primary for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District seat.
Several outlets called the race by 9:30 PM, with Alfonso holding 48% of the vote. Kevin Hermening had 29% of the vote. The three remaining candidates, Jessie Ebben, Niina Baum, and Don Raihala, had less than 16% at the time.
Alfonso was running with the endorsement of President Donald Trump. Hermening, who announced his candidacy back in mid-February, painted himself as the most experienced of the bunch.
The three-way Democratic primary remains too close to call, with three candidates each owning a near-equal split of the vote: Ginger Murray, Chris Armstrong, and Fred Clark. The winner will face Alfonso in November.
