MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers have officially announced the call-up of top prospect Luis Lara, as the team continues to work through injuries.
According to a team post on X, the Brewers’ fourth-ranked prospect, Luis Lara, has joined the team in St. Louis after agreeing to a seven-year contract in June worth up to $79 million and $31 million guaranteed, with incentives and escalators, including three club options from 2033 to 2035. To free up a roster spot, outfielder Blake Perkins has been optioned back to AAA-Nashville.
Lara, a 21-year-old outfielder from Venezuela, has been on fire at the plate this season, and AAA-Nashville now leads the league with a .338 batting average, seven home runs, 27 RBIs, and a career-low strikeout rate at just 12.8%
Milwaukee currently has the top-ranked farm system in the majors, led by 19-year-old infielder and top overall prospect Jesus Made, who is expected to receive a similar extension to Pratt and Lara next spring, and fellow 19-year-old infielder Luis Pena, who is currently playing with the Brewers’ High-A affiliate in Appleton and is expected to be called up to AA-Biloxi this summer.
