TOWN OF PINE RIVER, WI (WSAU) — The Pine River Fire Department was called to a barn fire on State Highway 64 Monday morning.
Crews were called at about 5:45 AM and arrived to find the structure fully engulfed with flames coming from all sides, and the roof partially collapsed. They managed to get the fire under control in about 15 minutes, then spent about two hours putting out hot spots and overhauling debris.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though the property owner said heat lamps were being used in the building. The bar was home to several chickens, rabbits, and turkeys. Some chickens managed to escape, but many of the animals are believed to have died in the blaze.
Mutual aid was initially requested but canceled after Pine River determined that they had enough personnel to handle the incident. The bar was far enough off the highway that crews were able to work with minimal impact to traffic.
