WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — An Antigo man accused of driving while intoxicated and causing a deadly head-on crash near Wausau has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Adam Borchardt entered the plea on Monday after a judge bound him over for trial. He’s accused of two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, along with operating a vehicle with a revoked license.
The 37-year-old is accused of going the wrong way along Highway 52 on September 26th, 2025. The crash killed Shirley and Arlen Erickson. A third person was hospitalized with serious injuries, and a fourth was treated at the scene for less-significant injuries.
Investigators worked for months to reconstruct the crash before charges were formally filed on April 2nd.

All told, Borchardt faces six felony counts. The most serious charges carry a combined 50 years in the state prison system. If found guilty on all six counts, he could face more than 75 years.
