STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Cleanup continues in Stevens Point after ice downed branches and power lines on Thursday, but the area is not out of harm’s way just yet.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Portage County this evening, with forecasters calling for a rain and freezing rain mix that could lead to additional ice accumulation. This comes as WPS crews are still working on more than 250 power outages in the area, leaving nearly 8,500 Portage County customers in the dark. Many of those outages list an unknown restoration time as crews continue to work in the area.
Sheriff’s officials are encouraging anyone who may need an overnight warming shelter to call the County Communications Center at 715-346-1400. You can also contact the United Way by dialing 211.
Additional information on warming shelters can be found here.
Residents are encouraged to stay home if possible. Those who do need to be out should expect hazardous conditions and beware of downed trees and power lines.
