STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) A man has been arrested in relation to a fire that broke out on October 9th in Stevens Point.
Jacob W. Turner, 23, has been booked into the Portage County Jail on a charge of arson. He resided at the apartment building and will go in front of a judge on Tuesday, October 13th. The investigation is still ongoing.
A caller reported flames and smoke at 920 #A Main Street around 9:40 a.m., according to the Stevens Point Police Department. The building houses a business on the ground floor with apartments above.
Tenants from both the apartments and business were evacuating when Stevens Point police and firefighters arrived. The Stevens Point Fire Department extinguished the fire with help from neighboring agencies.
One tenant received medical treatment. Two tenants are getting assistance from the Red Cross after being displaced by the fire.
Stevens Point police shut down nearby streets with help from the Stevens Point Streets Department to control traffic and secure the scene. Detectives are investigating the cause of the fire with assistance from the Wisconsin Department of Justice Criminal Investigation.
