MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — An Eau Claire man was arrested in Lincoln County after officers received a report of an erratic driver on US Highway 51 last Friday.
Dispatchers took a call about a vehicle that was swerving across lanes and driving at inconsistent speeds. When officers caught up, the vehicle was already in the ditch.
They immediately noticed the driver showing signs of impairment and asked him to perform a field sobriety test, which he refused. He was then accused of lunging at one of the officers in what they believe was an “attempt to tackle or disarm the deputy.”
Officers managed to subdue him and book him into the Lincoln County Jail. He was later identified as 72-year-old Kurtiss Gilbert of Eau Claire.
Court records show he was scheduled to make an appearance for one felony count of battery or threats against a law enforcement officer. He has also been cited for a first-offense OWI.
