GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers have begun trimming their roster to 53 players as countless players anxiously await word on whether they did enough to stay with the team during the preseason.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Tom Silverstein, the Packers’ first cut is long snapper Cal Adomitis, who filled in for Matt Orzech while he was on the PUP. This move was highly anticipated despite Adomitis’s strong play in the Packers’ three preseason games after Orzech signed a three-year, $4.8 million contract extension last August.
Other players who have been informed that they did not make the roster so far are tight end Messiah Swinson, who recorded 3 receptions on 4 targets for 24 receiving yards and no touchdowns during the Packers’ three preseason games. The Packers signed veteran tight end Jonnu Smith last week, which made Swinson’s and Castles’ odds of making the roster a long shot.
The Packers have agreed to trade quarterback Kyle McCord to the Miami Dolphins for a 2028 6th Round pick, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Longtime veteran Tyrod Taylor will serve as the backup quarterback to Jordan Love.
Green Bay also agreed to two other trades, acquiring running back Kaleb Johnson from the Steelers and tight end Mark Redman from the Rams as they look to add depth to their lineup, as Josh Jacobs has been placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt list. Jacobs will not be allowed to practice or attend games while on the list.
