WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – The governor’s race between Republican Tom Tiffany and Democrat David Crowley remains close with 70 days remaining until Election Day.
According to the latest Marquette Law poll, Tiffany and Crowley are tied at 44%, while 12% of respondents said they’re still undecided about whom they will support on November 3rd. The poll was conducted from August 12th through the 20th, interviewed 891 registered Wisconsin voters, and has a margin of error of four percentage points.
When split by party affiliation, 98% of Democratic respondents stated that they will vote for Crowley while 91% of Republican respondents would vote for Tiffany. Independent voters responded that they prefer Crowley by a 55% to 16% margin. However, more registered voters who are Republicans stated that they’re more enthusiastic to vote than registered voters who are Democrats by a margin of 55% to 49%, while the margin increases among likely voters, with 66% of Republicans and 58% of Democrats saying that they are enthusiastic to vote.
When asked which candidate voters viewed as more favorable, Tiffany led with 39% saying that they have a positive view of him, while 33% have a positive view of Crowley. 38% of respondents also stated that they haven’t heard of Crowley, while 18% said the same about Tiffany.
One of the most glaring responses came when the poll asked voters which party is more favorable and whether Wisconsin is too conservative or too liberal, with the respondents stating the Republican Party is more favorable right now than the Democratic Party by a margin of 42% to 35% and among registered voters, 49% of Republicans said their state party is too conservative while 52% of Democrats saying that their party is too liberal, which the poll notes may be push back against DSA candidates such as Francesca Hong nearly winning the parties’ governor nomination.
