WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Charges of theft against a Cedarburg woman have been dismissed after prosecutors say she paid back the stolen funds in full.
Ramona Bartell “has paid the amount requested to resolve the case,” according to online court records. She was facing two felony counts: theft in a business setting and theft of movable property, which would have carried a maximum of 16 years in the state prison system and thousands in fines.
The 70-year-old was accused of stealing money from a woman over whom she had power of attorney. Investigators say she used those funds for personal expenses, including household appliances, a grill, tablet devices, gas, and groceries.
The victim had been declared incompetent before her death. Bartell and another woman, Melissa Stark, had been enlisted to handle her finances. Stark has already been sentenced for her role in the scheme.
Charges were dismissed without prejudice, meaning the victim could bring the charges back at a later date. Records do not indicate how much Bartell paid back.
