WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — A 47-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man is facing multiple felony charges after an attempted traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase Monday evening.
It started at about 11:15 PM when officers attempted to pull over a GMC pickup for speeding in Grand Rapids. The driver, who was later identified as Daniel Erdman, immediately sped off, sparking the chase.
The pursuit crossed into Wisconsin Rapids, with Erdman running stop signs and driving on the wrong side of the road. Officers were finally able to deploy a pursuit intervention technique, or PIT maneuver, and disabled his vehicle. Erdman then tried to flee on foot before officers took him into custody.
Potential charges against him include a 7th OWI, fleeing an officer, and battery or threats to law enforcement. He was also driving with a revoked license due to prior OWI convictions. Court action against him is pending.
Officers also noted that at one point during the chase, a female tried to exit the vehicle but appeared to be restrained by Erdman. She was able to get out a short time later and did not require medical attention.
