WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – Badge, a therapy dog for the Wausau police department, has died.
Badge was Wausau PD’s first therapy dog, dating back to 2017.
Badge served with school resource officer Nick Stetzer, who retired in 2025. Stetzer was one of the first resource officers to bring a therapy dog to school. It’s now common practice at schools around the country.
“Throughout his career, Badge reminded us of the healing power of kindness and unconditional love. During times of stress, grief, and uncertainty, he was always there with a wagging tail, a calming presence, and an unwavering ability to brighten even the hardest days,” the department said on social media.
Badge died on Wednesday, surrounded by friends and family.
