TOWN OF LAKE TOMAHAWK, WI (WSAU) — A suspect is dead after an officer shot them during an attempted arrest on Wednesday morning.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, two Oneida County Sheriff’s Officers were sent to an address on Lumen Lake Drive to arrest a person in connection with a felony investigation. During the incident, the subject pulled a gun and fired a shot.
One officer fired back, striking the suspect. Officers called for an ambulance, but the suspect died at the scene.
Both officers have been placed on leave and are cooperating with the investigation, according to the DOJ- Division of Criminal Investigation. The results of their investigation will be turned over to the Oneida County District Attorney, who will determine if any charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
Other agencies involved in the investigation include police from Minocqua, Woodruff, and Rhinelander, as well as the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office.
Names of those involved have not been released. It’s unclear what charges the victim was going to be arrested for.
