ROTHSCHILD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The first peregrine falcon chick of the season has hatched at Wisconsin Public Service’s Weston Power Plant nest box.
Proud parents Sheldon and an unbanded female falcon welcomed their fluffy new addition on Monday morning. This is the couple’s third year nesting together at the Weston Power Plant.
A second egg also has started hatching inside the nest box, and the remaining eggs should not be far behind. Falcon fans can watch the live nest box camera to catch the first glimpse of these baby birds when they arrive.
The final results of this year’s peregrine falcon naming contest will be announced later this week. The chicks at the Weston Power Plant will be given names inspired by local news anchors later this spring.
So far, there are seven chicks and six eggs inside the nest boxes at WPS and We Energies power plants. One chick and three eggs are at the Weston Power Plant, three chicks are at the Oak Creek Power Plant, three chicks are at the Port Washington Power Plant and three eggs are at the Valley Power Plant in Milwaukee.
Viewers can keep an eye on each nest site and watch the chicks grow, build strength and learn to fly on the WPS and We Energies live cameras.
