ROTHSCHILD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The U.S. Postal Service is making significant upgrades across the nation, and the local Rothschild center is no exception. The new Rothschild Sorting and Delivery Center, which opened in February, replaces the old downtown Wausau center and serves over 100,000 people with nearly 40,000 daily deliveries.
“This facility has been entirely remodeled to accommodate more carriers. We have a sorting machine. Productivity on the sorting machine is roughly 5,000 pieces per hour. Manually our goal was 250 pieces per hour, so quite a big difference productivity wise for us,” said Scott Mayer, Wausau postmaster.
In addition to facility upgrades, the postal service is also updating its vehicle fleet, including several electric vehicles that are more efficient and safer for drivers.
Our fleet was aging, so to replace these vehicles, just better customer service you can expect, at a particular time of day on almost all of our routes you’re going to get your mail in general, an earlier delivery time, we don’t have to make multiple trips to the office,” Mayer said.
The postmaster mentioned they are hiring for both full-time and seasonal positions. Interested applicants can visit the USPS website for more information.
