RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU) — Those on the Rib Mountain water system will soon get their water from a new treatment plant.
The Village is working on a multi-million-dollar facility near Kings Campers along US Highway 51, which Village Administrator Gaylene Rhoden says has taken some time to construct. “The cranes have been there for quite a while, it’s been a long process and a complicated project because of underground piping and tanks that actually have to be [lifted] in.”
The project was in the works long before Rib Mountain and other communities discovered high levels of PFAS. Rhoden says they were already planning to treat Iron and Magnanese when the so-called forever chemicals were discovered, leading them to include those processes in the facility as well. “We want to make sure we have good quality water for our residents,” said Rhoden.
It’s still unclear what the project will do to the Village’s water rates. Rhoden notes that they recently had a conventional rate adjustment from the Public Service Commission, but once this project is complete, they could be in line for a full study.
