KRONENWETTER, WI (WSAU) — The search for an Administrator in Kronenwetter isn’t over.
After a 90-minute closed session on Thursday, the Board of Trustees voted to rescind an offer that had been made to candidate Bradley Hanson due to concerning factors in a background check.
“The board found some things in a search that we didn’t really care for,” said Village President Chris Voll. “We’ve rescinded the offer to Mr. Hanson and are moving on with another candidate search.”
The Village did not provide any biographical information on Hanson. Voll declined to elaborate on the concerning factors while on the record but confirmed that the subsequent search will involve both traditional job postings and a search firm. “In the next week or so we’ll get the ads back up and we’ll probably be discussing [employing] a hiring firm at our next Administrative Policy meeting.”
Search firms can improve the quality of Administrator candidates and offer suggestions from previous searches.
As for the near term, Voll says they will continue to operate with former Plover Administrator Dan Mahoney helping out three days a week. “[He’ll maybe] extend his services through a reduction in daily hours. Instead of working three days a week, he’ll maybe come in two days a week which would allow him to stretch that out into the middle of July.”
Kronenwetter has been without a full-time, permanent Administrator since last summer when they parted ways with Richard Downey. Since then, three interim administrators have been appointed, including Police Chief Terry McHugh, who fulfilled some duties while also maintaining his regular position with the Department.
Duane Gau initially held the job on a series of three-month contracts but left the position in February for family reasons. He was employed through Public Administration Associates, who billed the Village for his services.

Mahoney was brought on in March on a three-month deal. He previously told WSAU News that he didn’t intend to be in the position long-term though welcomed the opportunity to help bridge the gap to the village’s next full-time Administrator.
Voll adds that it will probably be at least four to six weeks before they can conduct another round of interviews.
