WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – Unlike the last few games, the bats were not as hot as the Woodchucks (6-1) took on the Dock Spiders (1-6) Sunday afternoon at Athletic Park, but a few key performances allowed for a 3-1 victory.
The first couple of innings for both Wausau and Fond du Lac were slow, with both teams having 1-2-3 innings. That changed for the Woodchucks in the third inning when they scored one run.
Starting pitcher Ethan Pecko (Towson) put together a show-stopping performance today on the mound. He pitched seven full innings and recorded 11 strikeouts and only one walk. Pecko also was a key contributor to the Woodchucks’ no-hitter.
Dalton Pearson (Georgia State) contributed greatly at the plate going 2/5 with two hits and two runs. His first score came from a sacrifice fly from Jesse Donohoe (Georgia State) to deep left field in the third and the second from the seventh inning.
The Woodchucks remain at home tomorrow, June 5, and will face the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders in the second game of the homestand. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
