MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Brewers have claimed right-hander J.B. Bukauskas off waivers from the Mariners.
Last Thursday, the M’s designated him for assignment. To make room on the 40-man roster for Bukauskas, the Brewers have placed infielder Luis Uras on the 60-day disabled list, according to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. According to Rosiak, Bukauskas has been assigned to Triple-A Nashville.

Bukauskas was a 2017 first-round pick of the Astros (15th overall) and has made 22 relief appearances in the majors since 2021.

Bukauskas, now 26, was the Astros’ No. 15 overall pick in 2017. Bukauskas was moved to the D-backs as part of the four-prospect package that sent Zack Greinke to Houston, but he struggled with injuries and never had much of a chance in the big leagues.
Despite a rocky start to the season, Bukauskas put up impressive Triple-A stats in a limited sample of 20 1/3 innings last year. In 38 2/3 innings at that level, he has a 3.96 ERA, a 26.3% strikeout rate, and a 6.9% walk rate.
He’s in his final minor league option year, so if he stays with the Brewers, he can provide some versatile bullpen depth for the rest of the season.
