WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – Two candidates have announced that they’re running for the Wausau Board of Education this spring.
Cory Sillars currently sits on the board. He was appointed to fill out the term of a board member who left the area. He must run in the April elections to remain in his seat. The other is Jennifer Paoli. She is running for the first time.
Sillars is a lifelong resident of the Wausau area. He has one child who graduated from Wausau West and another who is a current student. “I am committed to finding ways to use tax dollars to maximize student academic achievement as well as life and career readiness,” he said.
Paoli is also a lifelong Wausau resident. She’s worked in finance for 25 years. She, her husband, and three children are all Wausau West graduates. She said “efficient use of resources to maximize student achievement cost-effectively” is a top priority.
The Board of Education is in the middle of a community-wide consolidation discussion. Up to five elementary schools may be closed and combined with others. There are also discussions about whether there will be changes to the middle and high schools.
School board elections will be held in April 2023.
