MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Braelon Allen opened the scoring with a 39-yard touchdown scamper just 90 seconds into the game and Wisconsin never looked back in a 66-7 win over New Mexico State on Saturday.
Allen finished with 86 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the game, the latter ties a career-high for the sophomore. QB Graham Mertz also recorded a trio of touchdowns including two scoring passes to Slyler Bell.
Mertz finished the game with 251 passing yards and was replaced with under 6 minutes to go in the third quarter and the game in hand. Freshman Myles Burkett took over at QB and passed for 84 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.
Running Back Chez Mellusi added a fourth-quarter touchdown run to cap off the scoring.
Wisconsin rounds out non-conference play with a 2-1 record and will begin their nine-game Big Ten schedule next week in Columbus against Ohio State. Kickoff time has been set for 6:30 PM at the Horseshoe, pregame coverage will begin at 4:30 on WSAU. Coverage of the Brewers game that day against the Reds will be moved to 93.9 The Game.
