WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — All students in the Wisconsin Rapids school district will be required to wear face coverings beginning next week after an increase in the number of students testing positive for COVID-19.
In six days of in-person classes, there have been 12 positive tests in students, and about 10% of the student population is now in quarantine due to close contact.
In a letter to students and parents, Superintendent Craig Boeren said the district has also been made aware of the possible spread of COVID-19 due to school activities. Therefore all students, staff, and visitors will be required to mask up when in school buildings regardless of their vaccination status.
Masks will not be required when students are outside.
The new mandate goes into effect on Monday, but students and staff are encouraged to mask up on Friday if possible.
The Wisconsin Rapids school district began the year by only requiring students in grades K through 8 to wear face coverings.
