MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU)– Former Milwaukee Bucks guard Malcolm Brogdon, who won Rookie-of-the Year honors with the Bucks, has announced his retirement from the NBA after a nine-year career.
The 32 year old played for the Bucks from 2016-2019.
He issued a staement that read, ” I have proudly given my mind, body and spirit to the game over thlast few decades. With the many sacrifices it took to get here, I have received many rewards. I am deeply grateful to have arrived to this point on my own terms and now be able to reap the benefits of my career with my family and friends. Thank you from the bootom of my heart, to all who have a place in my journey.”
The Bucks selected Brogdon in the second round of the 2016 draft out of the University of Virginia. Even though injuries hampered his time with the Bucks he did put up successful seasons. He was the league’s top rookie in 2016-17 averaging over 10 points a game with 4.2 assists per contest and shooting over 40% from three point range. In 2018-19 he helped the Bucks get to the Eastern Conference finals shooting over 50% from the field and 42% from three-point range.
He signed with Indiana as a free agent in 2019 and later went on to play for the Boston Celtics where he earned Sixth Man of The Year honors. He finished his career with Portland and Washington. He had gone to training camp this season with the New York Knicks before deciding to end his career.
