WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Wood County Sherriff’s Department is welcoming in film crews from the TV show COPS to the new county jail. Sheriff Shawn Becker says it’s an opportunity to highlight the county’s staff and the new jail facility.
Sheriff Becker spoke to 9 News about the announcement Tuesday. He says the TV show was looking to get their film crews into a correctional facility with show’s producers approaching him about doing so. The sheriff says it’s his goal to highlight the work the staff do ever day.
“I’m very proud of the opportunity,” said Sheriff Becker. “It’s a great way to show off our staff and facility.”
The filming will take place at no cost to the county and Sheriff Becker says the film crews will have free reign to go around the jail with some restrictions on sensitive areas.
The team from COPS arrived at the jail on Tuesday afternoon to begin filming. They will continue to be on-site for a couple of weeks filming around multiple shifts.
