STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has recorded its largest Freshman or first-year student class in 40 years.
WAOW TV reports that campus leaders are still calculating the final numbers, but this year’s class is the largest in decades.
“This is their first time coming to campus. At UW-Stevens Point we have students that came here right out of high school, we also see a lot of post-traditional students, and so they have not had a chance to attend college and this is their first time as well. We see a lot of different students make up our first year class,” Associate Chief Marketing and Enrollment Officer Laura Bell told WAOW TV.
Bell said the university has stayed current with industry needs by creating new programs in areas like AI, sports business, and a master’s program in social work. “We’ve done a lot of work to ensure that students are going to have the best experience on campus. Sometimes that can be tricky with admissions but the faculty and staff on this campus have really gone out of their way to make sure the student experience is going to be top notch.”
Preliminary enrollment numbers released earlier this month by the Universities of Wisconsin showed 8,538 students at the Stevens Point campus. System-wide, new Freshman enrollment was up three percent while overall enrollment held steady.
