A former Packers player is in serious trouble: Former NFL running back LeShon Johnson is being convicted of six felony counts related to dog-fighting in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Johnson was found guilty of running Mal Kant Kennels, a large operation that bred and sold champion fighting dogs.
Authorities seized 190 pit bull-type dogs from his properties last year, marking the largest known seizure in a federal dog-fighting case.
Prosecutors presented digital evidence and CashApp records, showing roughly 400-thousand-dollars in sales over four years.
Johnson faces up to five years in prison and a 250-thousand-dollar fine per count.
Johnson played in 12 games for the Green Bay Packers in 1994 and 3 games in 1995.
Roster moves: The Green Bay Packers have signed G/C Lecitus Smith and waived/injured WR Sam Brown Jr. The transactions were announced Tuesday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.
Smith (6-3, 314), a third-year player out of Virginia Tech, had previously been with the Packers during the 2024 offseason and training camp as well as on Green Bay’s practice squad for the first six weeks of last season. After his time with the Packers in 2024, he spent time with the New England Patriots, appearing in one game, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Smith was originally selected in the sixth round (No. 215 overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He played in 10 games as a rookie for the Cardinals, opening two games at right guard. In 2023, he spent time on the practice squads of the Houston Texans and Philadelphia Eagles. Smith played in 45 games with 38 starts for the Hokies and was a two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection (2019-20). He will wear No. 68 for the Packers.
