WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Wausau Police are investigating a wrong-way crash that closed a portion of the US 51/ WI 29 interchange for several hours Saturday morning.
Officers say a driver was going southbound in the northbound lanes, causing a head-on collision. Both drivers were transported from the scene with serious injuries.
The incident closed down the northbound lanes from about 2 AM to 7:30 while crews cleared the scene and conducted a crash reconstruction. Traffic was detoured to Sherman Street and the northbound ramp at Stewart Avenue.
Officers haven’t released the names of those involved or any further information. It’s unclear if speed or alcohol were factors in the incident.
