EAST LANSING, MI (WSAU) — The Badger hockey team fell to 0-6 in league play on Saturday with a 5-1 setback against Michigan State.
Brock Caufield scored the lone goal of the game for the Badgers in the first period, which turned out to be the one to watch out of all three. The Spartans got the scoring started just four minutes into the game with a power play tally from Miroslav Mucha, and would double the lead one minute later.
The frame ended with the score sitting at 4-1. The Spartans added their fifth goal early in the third.
Kyle McClellan made 21 saves in the loss, including nine in the first period.
With the loss, Wisconsin is now 2-8 on the season.
Wisconsin hosts Long Island University for a pair of non-conference games next weekend. The Sharks are in their 3rd year as a Division I men’s program and play an independent schedule. They currently sit at 1-6-1 on the season. They were swept in two games by Michigan State earlier this season and lost two against Nebraska-Omaha this weekend.
