WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Wausau Police are investigating an accident that killed a 12-year-old bicyclist Thursday afternoon.
Officers were called to the area of 10th and Forest at around 3:45 for a car versus bicycle accident. The 12-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital where they later died.
Officers say the driver of the car did remain at the scene and was cooperating with investigators. The crash remains under investigation and no further information will be released today.
The intersection of 10th and Forest will remain closed into this evening. Drivers are asked to avoid the area by taking either S. Bellis Street or N. 11th.
Officers will release more information when appropriate and extended their deepest condolences to the family of the child.
