MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Badger women’s hockey team got two goals from Casey O’Brien in a 2-2 tie with Minnesota Saturday.
The two sides finished regulation level at two and neither side found a game-winner in the five-minute, 3-on-3 portion. Minnesota did win an extra standings point in a shootout.
Kennedy Blair went the distance in net making 30 saves on 32 shots faced. She made just one save in the overtime period.
Wisconsin sits in second place in the WCHA standings with 34 points in conference play (11-1-2). Minnesota sits in third. Ohio State sits atop the league but has played 16 conference games compared to 14 for Wisconsin and St. Thomas, and 12 for the rest of the league.
For the second night in a row, the Badger volleyball team picked up a 3 sets to none win in the NCAA tournament on Saturday, topping Florida Gulf Coast 25-17, 25-20, and 25-15.
Wisconsin recorded 49 kills and a .455 hitting percentage in the game with just nine attack errors. Grace Loberg led the offense with 15 kills.
Sydney Hilley recorded 40 set assists. The Badgers’ defense recorded 11 blocks in the contest.
Wisconsin has yet to drop a set in the tournament and of the six sets they’ve played, just one has seen the opponent reach the 20-point mark.
As the 4-seed in the tournament, Wisconsin is likely to host the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight rounds at the UW Fieldhouse next weekend, though an official announcement on the four hosts sites for the next two rounds has yet to come down from the NCAA.
Wisconsin will meet the 13th seeded UCLA Bruins in the Sweet Sixteen, with the winner facing either #12 Minnesota or #5 Baylor. Other Big Ten Clubs still standing in the tournament include #10 Nebraska, #6 Purdue, and #9 Ohio State along with unseeded Illinois.
