UNDATED (EVERYTHING EVERGREENS-93.9 THE GAME) – Last week’s second half was almost too bad to believe. The Evergreens have too much talent to beat themselves. And against a good, not great, Wausau West team they turned the ball four times and scored no points after halftime. Two drives that started with a short field, one at the 20-yard line, yielding nothing.
If there was ever a team that needs to turn the page and start over again, it’s the Evergreens.
There are new challenges in week four. It’s the first time that the Evergreens go on the road this year. They’ll play at Appleton-West’s new on-campus football field for the first time.
Appleton West won their first two games of the year, but against bad opponents with a combined record of 1-6. Last week West played an opponent that will have a winning record, SPASH, and was destroyed on the road.
West’s two best players are both inexperienced. Quarterback Jack Hamus, a junior, has thrown 3 interceptions in 3 games. Their top running back, Ben Vallafskey, was held in-check for under 50 yards last week. But West also has a come-from-behind win on their resume, beating Manitowac-Lincoln with a 4th quarter touchdown.
Everest is the better team. But they’ll lose if they can’t get out of their own way. Their last two quarters of football won’t beat anyone.
